Best Behaved Dog Academy

BEST BEHAVED DOG ACADEMY will begin operations in the New Year (2012) at the Red Barn Event Centre in south Barrie, Ontario. The Event Center offers a wide variety of dog sports for handlers and their companions to participate in.

OUR METHODS

A motivational method of positive reinforcement, the training methods used are gentle and fun for both dog and owner. I aid the handler in understanding their canine companion's behavior, which enables the handler and their dog to work together as a team that strengthens the bond between dog and owner.

At the basic level, the focus is on attention, control, partnership and response. The foundation is laid for a well behaved dog in any environment. In the advanced levels I feel it is important to inform and encourage our handlers to continue their partnership with their dog in any sport and lay the ground work for the Canine Good Neighbour, Rally Obedience and Agility.

The homework sheets are goal oriented, concise and easy to follow, and hand out sheets are available for any additional information.

Your instructor is committed to having you reach your individual goals and is always just a phone call away should you need additional help.

Class sizes are strictly limited for optimum student/instructor interaction.

Copies of vaccination certificates are required for all classes; bordatella (kennel cough) strongly recommended.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Laura Belisle is a qualified instructor with 15 years experience in obedience training and teaching.
Laura first apprenticed, then assisted with obedience classes before becoming an instructor with the Lakeshore Dog Training Association. Laura's simple to follow, structured classes are based on a logical building block approach with emphasis on a strong, happy and willing partnership between dog and handler.

A member in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club, the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers, the Canadian Association of Rally Obedience and the Lakeshore Dog Training Association; Laura was one of the founding members of the Irish Red and White Setter Club of Canada. In 1999, Laura relocated to Barrie and resurrected the obedience section of the Barrie Kennel and Obedience Club in 2000. She branched out on her own in 2004 and currently teaches, trains and competes in obedience and Rally-O with her Shetland Sheepdogs.

Her first dog, an Irish Red and White Setter, was the first of her breed in all of Canada to earn two obedience degrees and was awarded the Dogs in Canada Top Obedience R&W Setter Award for 2000 and 2001. Laura is also a certified evaluator for the CKC's Canine Good Neighbour Program.
